Ewart "Chip" Goodwin

Chip is a fourth-generation insurance broker in his family--his great grandfather started the Percy H. Goodwin Company in San Diego in 1875. Chip graduated from Claremont-McKenna College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and then joined the Great American Insurance Company in New York City. After several years in various positions with that national firm, he returned to San Diego to join the Percy H. Goodwin Company as vice president of insurance.

Upon the sale of the Goodwin Company, he purchased an old-line San Diego company-- Stanley Andrews Sports Outfitters--San Diego’s leading sporting goods retailer at that time. After seven years in that business, he sold the company to Sports Chalet and returned to the insurance industry with Universal Underwriters Company. In 1989, he joined the Ehrenfeld Company.

Chip has served as president for organizations such as the Vietnam Gift Pac, Help Hospitalized Veterans, The Executive Association and the Independent Insurance Agents Association, where he was presented the Andrew Ekern Award for “the insurance agent who has contributed his time and talent to the community and industry.” Additionally, he has spent a number of years on the San Diego Urban League board and 15 years as President of the La Jolla Playhouse. Chip is a member of the San Diego Rotary Club.
